MASSIVE $255 MAKEUP HAUL!!!!

Oh dear lord, what have I done!!! Yes, you read right, my dumb butt just bought $255 worth of makeup. WHAT!!! But to save face, I swear it wasn’t ALL my fault. The evil lady at ULTA, distracted me with her caked on makeup and spiderlashes and fooled me into buying stuff I didn’t even need:)

I went in originally to buy some higher end products for my lovely mother. It’s her birthday in a few days, and gosh darnit, the woman deserves some pretty products as well. However, I got selfish. Whoops. If you’ve been to ULTA then you know that they sell higher end products on one side and drugstore products on the other. So jee, hmmm where do you think I ended up? Yup!

I practically skipped to checkout line thinking I had done fairly well, but when the handsome man behind the counter said ” That will be $255″ I literally passed out. Seriously, my evil sister who I only see every other month and had egged me on to buying half the stuff, literally had to grab my hand, cause I was seeing stars before my eyes.

Sighhh……so what does one get with that much money? Not much.

Ladies, ladies, ladies. Luckily ULTA has a really good return policy, because there is no way I could live with myself if I spent 1/3 of my rent money on MAKEUP! I mean I love cosmetics, but I love a roof above my head more 🙂 And, yes some of you may be thinking, why didn’t I just return some products then? Well, soorrry,I got I selfish again. I thought it would make for some reviews, so be prepared 🙂

Covergirl Lip Perfection Lipcolor

Rich, Creamy, Smooth……sorry girls, I’m not talking about peanut butter or even chocolate :). These words describe  the Covergirl Lip Perfection Lipcolors perfectly!

A few months ago I saw this fancy display at my local drugstore, but chose to bypass it because the lipsticks were $9 USD, and sorry but that was just $5 too much. So for months I kept passing the display, hoping the prices would go down and when they didn’t I finally said,  “Gosh darn it!!! I NEED this lipstick!”  (I rationalized since I love Drew Barrymore, it was duty as a super fan to try the products she promotes ) 🙂

Packaging: Very sleek. Its simple yet fun and I really appreciate that the color is visible on the bottom on the tube. I keep all my lip products in a drawer and I hate having to open multiple tubes to find the color that I want. However, with  the peek of color, its soo much easier, I just open  the drawer and BAM there are my colors.

Product: It is pure velvet on the lips! So smooth and silky and in a weird way, the lines on my lips seem more filled in and smooth as well. The lasting power is also great and as the day wore on, for  me the color left a really pleasant lip stain effect that I really liked. the only down side is that because the product is so creamy, it has a tendency to slip, so I highly recommend using a lip pencil or maybe even using a light hand when applying.

(Ladies ignore the EPIC stache shadow!!! Trust when I say there is no hair there but apparently my camera wants me to believe I’m rocking a 5 o’clock shadow! haha!)

Price: $5-$10 USD depending on location and availability

Overall: I am really glad I tried this line of lipsticks! The color selection is CRAZY! There are so many fun and vibrant colors that really appeal to the teenage spirit. Usually hesitate to recommend lipsticks for girls in highschool, but these colors are just to fun to skip 🙂

Review: E.L.F Powder Brush

The reason I started this blog was to share some hidden gems with the world that others may have overlooked because the product was too simple. Case in point: the ELF Powder Brush.

This is a brush. This is a black brush. This is a black flat top powder brush. Nothing shiny,  nothing glitzy nothing eye-catching or gimmicky, and I think that is what is the best part about this brush.

Designed as a powder brush, I use it as a foundation buffer, and I can honestly say, my makeup application has never been more flawless! I just dab  on my foundation and then stipple it on with this brush and then buffer it in. The ELF Powder brush not only helps distribute the color evenly but it also helps give an airbrush finish.

Brush: The bristles are soft synthetic fibers that are attached to a wooden handle.

Price: Online or at Target it is about $3. I got mine at the dollar store for…you guessed it $1 USD!

Overall: Do I think there are better foundation brushes on the market…yes. However, for the price this brush is unbeatable. Definitely a must try if you are just beginning to experiment with makeup or if  you are looking for a kabuki style foundation brush.

Review: Revlon Photo Ready Foundation

Well hello condensed glitter in a bottle. Having fallen’ in love with the Revlon Colorstay Foundation, when this foundation came out I was the first to run out and try it. I thought, “hey its the same company, same formula, AND IT HAS A PUMP!”  Brought it home, put it on, and then shinned worse than Edward Cullen from Twilight 🙂

Pros

Coverage: The coverage for this foundation is great. Like most Revlon foundations, the coverage is easily buildable and the overall effect is great. Its sits well on the skin and as advertised, it photos really nicely.

Packaging: IT HAS A PUMP! If you read my review of the Revlon Colorstay Foundation, then you know that I love the product but hate that it has no pump making it very messy and unhygienic to deal with. Well I think Revlon secretly heard my prayers and put a pump on this product. The perfect amount  is dispensed each time, and you can easily add half pumps.

Cons

Glitter: I get it, the glitter is supposed to reflect light, therefore giving off an airbrushed and flawless look in photos. However, for those of us aren’t Adriana Lima and running from photo shoot to photo shoot, the added glitter is pointless. Although some people say that the glitter is not that much of a distraction, for my oily skin it was overkill.

Pricing: If Revlon wants to remain accessible to the masses, then they have to find a way to remain drugstore budget friendly. I bought this product for $15 USD and returned it not only because I didn’t like it, but also I felt bad for how much I spent on it.

Overall: I would recommend this foundation to those who know they will be photographed a lot. be it for picture day at school, a wedding, clubbing or if you just like glitter on your skin, then go ahead invest in this product

Neutrogena Healthy Skin Pressed Powder

Image

Okie Dokie so here’s another product where I fell for the hype. A few years back when everyone jumped on the healthy skin bandwagon and used au naturale products that were good for the skin, I was still using pore clogging, carcinigen full, awesome foundations. But after multiple breakouts and a nasty allergic reaction that no one it allowed to talk about, I bowed my head and finally said “Okay okay lets see what this is all about.”

I bought my Neutrogena Healthy Skin Pressed Powder from my local CVS for about $7, normally the price is alot higher but I bought mine during a BOGO 50% off sale.

Coverage: This product is light to medium buildable coverage. However, for my oily skin, this product did NOTHING! After applying I looked like a ashy ghost even though the powder was my color. After 30 minutes the product was non-existent. If I tried to reapply, it just stuck to my pores and magnified them.

Packaging: This comes in a typical compact form with a bottom section to keep the powder puff. The overall compact however is very bulky and after being tossed in and out of my makeup bag for a while, the plastic snap keeping the lid closed, snapped off.

Pricing: Neutrogena as a brand is one of the more expensive ones in the drugstore. Therefore it is no surprise that this product can run you anywhere from $9-$14 USD, depending on location and aailability.

Overall: I did not like this product. My oily skin did nothing but look ghostly after application and then sucked on the product within 30 minutes. However, i tried this product on my sister who has noraml to dry skin and the finished still looked chalky on her, but lasted a little longer

Review: Revlon Colorstay Foundation

After hearing much hype about this product on various websites and video sharing sites, I decided it was time to try this product out. So I drove my lazy butt to my local Rite Aid and bought the Revlon Colorstay for combo/oily skin for $13!!!

                                        Image

Honestly if this product didn’t work I was going to be PISSED, but fortunately it worked out great 🙂 The product  in it self is a thick and dense consistency, and A LITTLE GOES A LONG WAY! Wanting to cover all my ugly blemishes the first time I tried it, I was stuck on the idea that more is better, but after massaging a giant goop into my cheek I realized what an icky mistake I just had made

PROS:

Coverage: FULL coverage! Very buildable but you have to be quick with the application because it gets tacky and unblendable fairly quick. Therefore it is best to work in small patches and remeber to mix it with your favoirte moisturizer for a lighter coverage adn feel.

Lasting Power: This stuff is like super glue! Once on, its there all day. I have very oily skin and makeup normally doesn’t stay on for very long, but for me even at the end of the day I need a few makeup wipes to take all the foundation off.

Range: This line of foundations has a  large color selection so it is fairly easy to find the right shade or combination of shades that you need

CONS:

Packaging: Hate is a strong word, but I HATE the packaging of this product! Like other foundations, Colorstay comes in a glass twist top container and you have to pour the product out. This is not only unhygienic, but after using it carefully for a few weeks, it gets really messy and goopy after a while.

Price: For a drugstore foundation, this product is among the most expensive. $13 really!

Overall: I would buy this product again, it covers everything, stays on all day even on my oily skin, and since a little  goes a long way, the product lasts a long time since you dont have to re purchase it all the time.
