I whip my foundation back and forth! Revlon Colorstay Whipped Foundation

Yup, I just referenced a ten year old’s hit single…so sad. But what ev’s let’s get to the review 🙂

 Revlon Colorstay Whipped foundation.

Packaging : The foundation comes in a cool sleek glass jar. Very similar to Chanel packaging. When you open it, there is a plastic cover to keep the foundation in place.

Product: Advertised as a light-weight formula that lasts 24 hours, this foundation is a wet mousse type of consistency. No, it is not the same as the dream mousse line by Maybelline or the spray foam foundation. Rather when you first look at it, it looks like the regular Colorstay that has been dumped in the jar

but when you touch it with a brush, you can see the wet foamy bubbles.

Pricing: $12-$16 depending on location and availability

Pros:

  • feel light weight
  • wear flawlessly throughout the day
  • long-lasting
  • need very little to get full coverage

Cons:

  • Very expensive for a drugstore foundation
  • sinks into pores/ cakes around blemishes
  • limited color selection

Overall: I really like this foundation. At first I wasn’t too sure about what to make of this product. Is is liquid, is it mousse? I couldn’t decide, but it felt great on my skin, not the same thickness as the regular Colorstay. My only problem however is that I felt I needed a primer because although it looked gorgeous on  my skin as the hours passed, it also sank into my pores and caked around dry patches and blemishes.

Would I buy it again? I think so, I mean I wouldn’t wear on the days I have a breakout our problem skin, but I for long work days or a night out, it is great.

WTH!!! Sara is alive??? + project 10 product

Hello? Heelllloooooo? Is anyone there, does  anyone still read this blog? LOL, hi my lovely readers, long time no communicate. Who would have thunk that a new job would mean 16 hour work days? NOT ME! But, I’m here, I’m rearing to  share my thoughts so lets get started!

So this summer, I decided to go on a shopping hiatus. This meant NO new makeup, NO new bath products, NO new nothing! I wanted to force myself to use up all that I had stock piled. So how did I do? Take a look 🙂

Considering I’m addicted to cosmetics, I think I did fairly well. I knocked out most of my mascara collection, cut out all my skin care samples,  finally finished my foundation and even used my Clarisonic so much that now I need a new brush.

Phewww Im exhausted, just looking at this huge pile in front of me is making me nervous, its like there is a huge void on my vanity…must…replenish…NOW!

Meet my homegirl Mia….she’s a Clarisonic :)

About a month back I purchased a Clarisonic and after using it about three times per week and then reducing it to once  or twice  a week, I can honestly say I love it 🙂

So if your interested in an in-depth  review keep reading 🙂

Product: Included in the kit were:

  • ClarisonicÂŽ Mia with one speed (Waterproof), international pLink™ Charger for worldwide use, sensitive Brush Head and trial Size Cleanser
  • Nutritive Cleanser-with Alpha Lipoic Acid and DMAE ($14 Value)- It is formulated to reveal a brighter and smoother skin surface and helps to minimize the appearance of enlarged pores. It leaves skin looking radiant and perfectly prepared for treatment.
  • Neuropeptide Firming Moisturizer ($37 Value)- This superior hydrating cream delivers advanced proprietary Neuropeptide technology to help firm sagging skin while correcting the appearance of lines and wrinkles. Developed for skin that is dehydrated and has lost elasticity.

Pricing: $119 USD, but with coupons and online rebates, I paid $90.

Pros:

  • After the first use my skin felt smoother and cleaner
  • After three uses, my skin saw a decrease in redness, and smaller pores started to disappear
  • Removed makeup even after I thought I had removed everything with traditional cleansers
  • After 2 weeks saw a reduction in oiliness of face
  • Price motivated me to maintain a cleansing routine
  • Very portable and compact
  • Built in timer assures proper time is taken to cleanse

Cons:

  • Price  for both machine and replacement heads that you need every three months ($40 USD)
  • One brush head regardless  of  skin type or need
  • Brush head was a lot rougher then I thought, took  some breaking into.

OVERALL:

I love it! Honestly I didn’t have any expectations for this product. Yes, I read reviews, watched videos and was enticed to buy it, but I really thought it was just gonna be something that I used sometimes, maybe if I remembered.

However, this little sucker has changed my life , for reals. My skin looks fresh, hydrated, and dirt free. My pores are shrinking and my blemishes are gone. Plus as an unexpected bonus, I use less foundation! My skin is looking so healthy that I no longer feel the need to wear much makeup 🙂

So if you have been thinking of getting one, I say do it! It is well worth the investment : )

My sister tried the Clarisonic for two weeks and this is what happened!!

DRUGSTORE FOUNDATION SMACKDOWN!

Ladies and gentlemen welcome to the showdown of the year!!!! In this corner we have Revlon and her partner L’Oreal, and in that corner we have Rimmel and her partner Maybelline. Who will win?  It just might be Almay, Covergirl or Nuetrogena….LET THE BATTLE BEGIN!!!

🙂 I’m on the never-ending search for prefect skin. While a good skin care routine is a must, a good foundation is also a bonus, so here’s my mass review of most of the drugstore foundations I have tried.

Revlon Colorstay:

Pros: Covers like a Mo Fo! I have a more in-depth review, but this the foundation everyday because it stays on my oily skin all day and it doesn’t budge until I take it off. I love that they have two versions of this foundation, 1 for oily/combo skin and one for dry/normal

Cons: Its thick. I mix mine with a moisturizer to thin it a bit and if you read my previous posts you know I hate that it does not have a pump  so it can really messy.

L’Oreal True Match

Pros: Third times the charm for me and this foundation. I hated it at first but now I really like it. It can give a very sheer effect but it also can be built up. It gives off a nice dewy finish because it is more liquidy than most drugstore foundations. Oh and they have a HUGE shade selection, which is great if you have lighter or darker skin

Cons: For me it’s not very long-lasting. Towards the end of my workday I can see it fading from oiler areas on my face. Also it doesn’t have a pump so yup it can get messy.

L’Oreal Visible Lift

Pros: This is my new favorite. It has awesome coverage and longevity! A little goes a long way which is great because this on the more expensive end of drugstore foundations. As far as “visible lift”  I think it works slightly because it fills in small pores and wrinkles giving a smooth look,  and oh did I mention, it has a pump!

Cons: Because it is very bendable  a small amount is all you need but it can be hard to control how much comes out of the pump sometimes.

Maybelline Superstay:

Pros: This is the prefect combo of the Revlon Colorstay and L’Oreal True Match. Its  thick but not too thick and gives really nice coverage. Lasts a normal 8 hour work day once set with a good face powder.

Cons: Doesn’t do too well under temperature change. I live in California and this foundation tends to oxidize when it gets too hot.

Maybelline Dream Liquid Mousse

Pros: It has a pump and is very thick giving a full coverage airbrushed effect.

Cons: Do not like this one. Its thick and gloopy and doesn’t blend all that well. Also I noticed after I put it in it kind of separated around certain areas on my face, ewww

Rimmel Stay Matte

Pros: Aww my first foundation ever 🙂 Don’t know if they sell this anymore but it came in a squeeze tube and gave very nice coverage. Because it was do dense a little went a long way and it really helped control oil.

Cons: It hard to blend. I normally used just my fingers with this foundation

Nuetrogena Healthy Skin

Pros: Often compared to the NARS Sheerglow, this foundation gives the nicest sheer dewy coverage. This is perfect for the days you don’t want to wear any foundation but still want to look out together. At one point this was my everyday foundation and I would just to my fingers to blend it in.

Cons:I fell  out of love with it 😦 Don’t know what happened but I just kinda lost interest in this foundation half way through the bottle. Oh, no pump and very expensive

Covergirl Clean Foundation

Pros: Cheap and different types depending on your skins needs

Cons: It’s just weird! At first I thought  I found the perfect $4 foundation but that was a short-lived thought. It smells weird, turns blotchy and doesn’t stay on

Almay Smart Shade

Pros: Interesting concept, comes out white, changes color while you blend into skin.

Cons: It turned powdery on my skin and didn’t give much coverage and there are only three “colors” to  choose from light, medium or dark.

So there you are my fellow bloggers, the drugstore foundation smackdown!!! Who won??? No  one 😦 Although I love my Colorstay and Visible Lift I’m still on the search for the illusive “perfect” foundation 🙂

If you have any suggestions  for a new foundation please leave a comment or if you want a more in-depth review of any of the foundations I mentioned just let me know 🙂

BeneFit “Hello Flawless” Cover up Powder

If I was a face powder kind of girl, then this would be the one. Oh the simplicity, the coverage, the SPF….yes, we could’ve been a great match 🙂

Now before I start sounding anymore like a perv, on with my review 🙂

Packaging: The powder comes in a cute little box within in a box. Although BeneFit products as a whole aren’t necessarily on the top of my favorites list, I must say, their packaging is always cute.

Included with the powder are a typical brush and sponge applicator. While the brush is okay  if you have absolutely nothing else, most definitely throw out the sponge. Don’t want all your face oils getting caught in it when you use is.

Product: The face powder itself is a  soft consistency. Where I have found other powders to be very chalky and streaky, this powder is soft and blends in very well. As written on the box, with a brush the powder gives a very sheer coverage and with a sponge its a great spot cover-up. Plus the SPF 15 doesn’t hurt either 🙂

Pricing: Here’s where I hesitate. If it was twenty dollars cheaper, I would be all over it, but at $34 USD, it’s definitely a could’ve, would’ve should’ve  kind of product.

Overall: I have never been a powder kind of girl. I have always found them to make my face look chalky and overly done.  Honestly can’t even think of the last time that I used a powder, other than a translucent one to set my foundation once in a while.

However, after experimenting with this powder, I think maybe I should change my mind. Although I wasn’t a huge fan of the effect it gave over my foundation, on its own, over some primer and tinted moisturizer I found this powder to be great. We all have those days, when we just don’t want anything heavy on our face and I think for those days, this powder is great. It helped cover my small imperfections, without going overboard and let my skin breathe.

I would recommend this powder cover up  for girls looking for a major setting powder that just won’t let your foundation budge, as well as girls looking for a light airy look.  Remember the secret is in the application 🙂

🙂 🙂 🙂 3/4

MASSIVE $255 MAKEUP HAUL!!!!

Oh dear lord, what have I done!!! Yes, you read right, my dumb butt just bought $255 worth of makeup. WHAT!!! But to save face, I swear it wasn’t ALL my fault. The evil lady at ULTA, distracted me with her caked on makeup and spiderlashes and fooled me into buying stuff I didn’t even need:)

I went in originally to buy some higher end products for my lovely mother. It’s her birthday in a few days, and gosh darnit, the woman deserves some pretty products as well. However, I got selfish. Whoops. If you’ve been to ULTA then you know that they sell higher end products on one side and drugstore products on the other. So jee, hmmm where do you think I ended up? Yup!

I practically skipped to checkout line thinking I had done fairly well, but when the handsome man behind the counter said ” That will be $255″ I literally passed out. Seriously, my evil sister who I only see every other month and had egged me on to buying half the stuff, literally had to grab my hand, cause I was seeing stars before my eyes.

Sighhh……so what does one get with that much money? Not much.

Ladies, ladies, ladies. Luckily ULTA has a really good return policy, because there is no way I could live with myself if I spent 1/3 of my rent money on MAKEUP! I mean I love cosmetics, but I love a roof above my head more 🙂 And, yes some of you may be thinking, why didn’t I just return some products then? Well, soorrry,I got I selfish again. I thought it would make for some reviews, so be prepared 🙂

TAG! Ur it! Beauty Secrets Tag

Okay so she doesn’t know it yet, but Fancieland is my new BFF 🙂 Without sounding too stalkerish, I love this girls posts and I think she’s the more calmer version of myself. A few minutes ago she posted a beauty tag, and duhhh, I had to respond!

1. What is one product that makes your feel like a million dollars?

Pshhh, right off the back I’m conflicted. If we are talking about makeup, then it HAS to be my Maybelline Falsies mascara. In my mind I always think that people will be so distracted by my fabulous lashes, that they won’t notice my dark circles and giant zit 🙂

If it’s clothing, then it’s gotta be my heels! Mind you I couldn’t walk in heels if my life depended on it, but I love them and own waaaay to many pairs 🙂

2. What is your skin care secret?

For YEARS I have been using St.Ives Apricot Scrub. Products have come and gone, but this has been a staple item. I have ridiculously oily skin that is prone to blemishes. So when I wear makeup, it is very important that I remove my makeup every night. Then about three times a week I exfoliate to clean off the dead skin cells and clean out my pores.

3. Share your hair care secret.

Like my awesomely slick face, I have oily hair….yuck! However, because I have naturally oily hair, I also have long hair. The oil provides natural nutrients for my scalp to grow healthy hair. So given this, I always thought any extra oil was my enemy, buuttt, recently I discovered the power of Almond Oil. About once every two weeks, I give my scalp a nice massage with the oil, leave it in for a few hours and I’m set for the rest of the month with gorgeous, soft, healthy hair.

4. What is your biggest diet rule?

Arghhh… this is where my  friendship with Fancieland ends 🙂  While she’s naturally too skinny, I’m naturally overweight and have always been so. But I made a commitment this year to put my health first and have actually been successful at loosing some weight and gaining some muscles. What’s been my motivation is I actually took “Before” pictures of myself. So on the days I feel down and frustrated, I look at the pictures and in a weird sadistic way, the pictures motivate me to keep going.

As far as actual diet, snacking has made the biggest difference. I read an article a few months ago that  said something about how is your body going to burn anything if there is nothing to burn. That really stuck with me, SO instead of  2 or 3 big meals, I eat about 5 small meals, this way my body is constantly working to burn the calories, instead of storing.

5. Any workout tips?

Do what you like! I hate running, so I avoid the treadmill. However, I love weight training and cycling, so those are the things that I do regularly at the gym. I mean come on, if you hate someone, I doubt you would want to hang out with them, same thing applies when working out.

6. Which perfume is your secret weapon?

I’m not much of a perfume person. No, I don’t stink, I do use deodorant, but I’m a lotions kind of girl, especially Bath & Body lotions, yumm!

7. Show us a clothing item that always turns heads.

My 7 forallmankind Jeans. Love them! Finally found a brand that fits my curves the way they were meant to  be  shown off. SECRET TIP: NOOOO way will I pay more than $40 for a pair of jeans. That’s just me, I’m cheap like that. I get these high-end jeans at TJ Maxx, for $5-$25 a pair!!!

8. What is your most treasured piece of jewelry?

I love the bling!!!!!! My current obsession is hoop earrings with small hanging  diamond balls   (eww…get ur mind out of the gutter 🙂

9. Who is your style crush?

I’m a mentally promiscuous person. Now, before you get all judgmental let me explain. I have a very undefined sense of style. Some days I’m a jeans, t-shirt and converse kinda girl, others I am a hippie chic, and yet others I’m a glamazon. So I don’t really have a style crush but I do like a bunch of different celebrity styles, but this is also always changing.

However, I’m obsessed with Marc Jacobs!!! More so for the person versus the brand, because I mean come on who else can rock neon blue hair with a pink dress. Yup.

10. Tell us something we don’t know about you.

I loooooove Disney. If I wasn’t a graduate student, I swear I would be a pretty princess at Disneyland! Seriously! Now without sounding like a Match.com ad, here are some others things about me: I’m scared of birds, I love chocolate, I’m obsessed with all things beauty, I love shoes, my eyes change colors depending on my mood, I live in California (totally just sang the Katy Perry song in my head, and now you will too!), my sister is my best friend, I played soccer in high school, I love reality tv shows (shhhhhh!), I have like 10 celebrity crushes, my ethnicity is Indian and my dog Lucky is the LOVE OF MY LIFE! Big boy turns 10 this year 🙂

Ok………..too much information 🙂 Now its your turn, I would love to read about who you all are!!! SO go on, stop thinking “naaahh not me.” Just push new post and start typing 🙂

Wet N Wild Color Icon Palettes…Discontinued????

Ladies…..ladies…….ladies. My heart is a little broken today. Not only did I wake up to rainy, gloomy morning, but yes its true, Wet N’ Wild is discontinuing their color icon palettes!……Maybe.

Alright,  so if you live under a rock or possibly in a remote jungle in Asia, you probably have not heard of the Wet N” Wild color Icon Palettes. However, for the remainder of the world, these palettes have been accessible for the past two years. Once deemed the worst drugstore line, Wet N’ wild not only reinvented their image but their products as well and invented one my “holy grail” products.

Product: Over the past few years, there have been about six different palettes that have been released to the public. While some of them were specifically for holiday promotions, the Vanity (pictured above), Lust (purple hues), Pride (combination of blues and greens) have always been available year round. Included in each palette are six shadows, ranging from matte, frost and shimmer. The shadows themselves are SOOOOOO  pigmented and soft making them very blendable and wearable. Mix and match as you choose from any palette because  the colors complement each other so well

Packaging: There is no gimic. Simple plastic casing with six shadows and two applicator brushes, which compared to other brands, are not half bad if you use a light hand with them.

Pricing: $3-$6 USD depending on location and availability.

Overall: Seriously if you do not own at least one of the color icon palettes, go and get one! The product is phenomenal and the product is unbeatable! Plus if you are a fan of MAC cosmetics, the palettes have some great dupes for neutral colors!

As far as Wet N’ Wild discontinuing their most successful line  EVER……eeehhhh, not sure. But just as a precaution, you can bet I’m going to be stocking up on backups 🙂

🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

Ugly Zit…BE GONE I SAY!!!

So like most people, I have battled ugly blemishes (i.e zits, pimples, acne etc..) my whole life. Even now, in my mid-20’s I’m still prone to the occasional breakout that has me running to the mirror every twenty minutes to check if the monster has grown bigger 🙂 However, through the years, after much money spent and hundreds of products tested, I think I have finally found the best PREVENTATIVE medicine I can buy from the drugstore that works for me.

DISCLAIMER: I am NOT a health  professional. This review is solely based on MY experience. Everyone is different, so what works for me, may not work for you, therefore if you have a serious skin condition, it is best you consult a physician/dermatologist, who can advise you on the proper procedures  and medicines to take that will work the most effectively for u 🙂

As teenager had these big  ole’ honking pimples all over my forehead. As I got older, these little suckers started to travel down my face! I mean really! Its bad enough that I was a chubby teenager, then add to that these meandering pimples and yup, the perfect cocktail for low self-esteem. Don’t worry I’m good now, but these pimples really motivated me to explore  products that would help me zap them away.

Proactiv, Clean & Clear, Neutrogena, Burt’s Bees, Noxzema, Acne Free, Biore, Oxy, I mean if it can be bought at a drugstore store or mall, then I’ve tried it. While some helped ease the problem, most just irritated my face and exasperated the problem. However, eventually, I learned  better, fixed my diet, came up with a face routine that worked for me, and finally “conquered” my battle with the pimple 🙂

Now in my mid-20’s, my biggest battle is with the darn zits! Alright, alright I will be the first to admit that I don’t always wash off my makeup before I go to sleep. Oh hush, you know you have your lazy days as well 🙂 Sadly though, the next day is when I pay, when I see the evil creatures sprouting on my chin. So my cure….Persa Gel!

This product is awesome! With 10% Benzoyl Peroxide concentration, this product  not only helps reduse the redness, but makes my zits vanish quickly without  leaving any discoloration behind. So if I feel a zit/pimple/cystic acne attack coming on, I just dab this sucker on, and BOOYAH! gone!

I used to think I was deformed because the salicylic products never seemed to work for me. While they worked miracles for my friends, all they ever did for me was give me dry skin, which is pretty epic considering the oiliness  of  my skin!

Why does Persa-Gel work? Because it kills the bacteria!!! It gets down to the root of the problem rather then just getting rid of the zit cosmetically. So while it may take two days for the zit  to die forever, thats excatly what its going to do, DIE FOREVER! The product gets deep down kills the germs and PREVENTS  new zits from popin up in that place again for a while.

So  if your  tired of bumpy zits and salicylic products just aren’t working, give this a try 🙂 It’s cheap, effective and well-worth the hype.

Revlon Photoready Airbrush

Why oh why do I do this to myself? If I didn’t like the product the first time, what made me think I would like it in a different form?

For those of you that read my post on the Revlon Photoready Foundation, you know that I called it “glitter in a glass bottle.” Well everyone meet that foundations sister “compressed glitter in a can.”

Packaging: It comes in an aerosol type can that you push on top to dispense the product. While this is a great idea for those of us that do not want to be unhygienic, the pump has no control, meaning I push it once and even after  I let go, product still oozes out.

Product: The product is a mousse consistency and very airy to the touch. It blends very well into the skin but you have to be quick because it dries fairly quickly and will streak if you try to blend it after its dry

Coverage: I would consider this medium coverage. It covers minor blemishes and discolorations but anything more obvious and it kind of cakes around the blemish and makes it stick out.

Pricing: Too much! I paid $14.99 but I returned it, so if you want to try it, buy  it on sale or a BOGO sale.

Overall: I wanted to like this product so much, I really did. It felt great on the skin almost non-existent, but my problem was the darn glitter again. My skin is already oily and  shiny so I definitely do not want a product that helps me shine like a disco ball. However, to be fair I tried this product on my sister who has dry skin and it look great on her. My only suggestion for dry skin would be to MOISTURIZE because the foam sticks to ever pore, blemish, and piece of dry skin. This product is best left for the few people who have near perfect skin but just want some minor color and coverage.

Oh yeah, like advertised it looks good in pictures

: )  🙂 3/4
